April 1 - The WTO (World Trade Organization) today confirmed the United States lost its case against Antigua and Barbuda. According to reports by Reuters news agency the US did not do anything about the earlier verdict which stated that some of its online gambling restrictions were illegal.
The panel concluded that the US failed to abide by the WTO's recommendations.
The dispute is a WTO verdict in April 2005 against United States prohibitions on online betting. The US has since then approved additional legislation to prohibit online betting.
John W. Ashe - Antigua's ambassador to the WTO said that this was an amazing victory for Antigua and that the report shall clear any doubt that Antigua clearly beat the United States in this matter.
In the WTO ruling, the panel, consisting of 3 trade judges stated that the US did not contest the charge by Antigua that it did not do anything to implement the 2005 ruling.
