|   | | October 30 - Over the past weekend, Taiwan's Police Criminal Investigation
Bureau (CIB) reportedly arrested ten Taiwanese nationals across the country in a
successful raid, on
charges of running an illegal online gambling operation and being
involved in organized crime.
After receiving a tip that the gang was operating three illegal online gambling
websites as well as an 'underground' gambling hall, police raided twelve locations
across Taiwan, including in the cities of Taipei, Taichung and Changhua, seizing
computers, equipment and gambling records.
Police managed to capture ten people involved in the illegal Internet gambling
operation including the gang's ringleader, Lin Min-Chi, who allegedly accepted
illegal bets on various sporting events as well as on the 'ups and downs' of
futures indices, resulting in a monthly turnover of over $3 million.
When questioned by police, Lin allegedly confessed that he and his gang had
successfully been
running an illegal land and online gambling operation since 2005,
which had generated tens of millions of dollars in profits.
Lin and his co-accused are currently in police custody and have been
referred to the Taichung Public Prosecutors' Office, where they'll face serious
charges of running illegal gambling activities as well as being involved with organized crime.
