|   | | April 10 - No, the world is not a very nice place to live given that we
(humankind) are systematically destroying the planet, thousands of people die
everyday from war, disease, hunger, violence, poverty and ignorance, and
governments are plagued by hypocrisy.
It is no wonder that many people have turned to the Internet not only as a quick
and easy information resource, but also as an instant, personal, private, safe and global
form of 'escapism'.
That's right, every day and night millions of people around the world jump onto the Internet and immerse themselves in various forms of escapism,
including the reading and writing of blogs, watching videos on YouTube, playing Free arcade
games and even gambling online.
Re the latter, for over a decade consenting and adults of legal
gambling age have been able to access online casinos, poker rooms and online
sports books based all over the world, and freely gamble online from the privacy and
security of their own homes or offices etc.
No where was this more the case than in the United States, which is not
surprising given that America has always been the planet's foremost torchbearer
for 'Freedom for all' and the rights of its citizens to live
and speak 'freely'. Thus, up until a year ago the United States boasted the most
online gamblers in the world.
That is until 'hypocrisy' reared it ugly head in the US Congress, where a small
group
over-privileged cronies voted to 'ban online gambling' by making it near
impossible for Americans to fund and receive funds from online gambling related
websites.
Why, you may well ask, did the US lawmakers deem it appropriate to prevent
hundreds of thousands of consenting, middle to upper-income, predominantly
educated Americans from
exercising their right to gamble online?
Well there are many reasons, one of which is to curb the loss of billions of (un-taxable)
dollars going into the coffers of offshore online gambling operations, two to
'protect' the interests of many long-established American land online casinos
and sports books, and three to 'protect' problem gamblers and prevent 'underage'
gambling.
What a load of horse manure. If it was the intention of Congress to ban online
gambling to protect problem gamblers and prevent underage gambling, why did it
not
also include the Lottery or scratch cards in the ban?
Face it, the world's largest super power may have been the beacon of hope for
millions of people around the world looking for a better and free'er existence,
but now America has simply become another country with a bullying, hypocritical government that each day resembles more of the kind of state George Orwell wrote and warned against in his famous book, 1984.
Not only is Big Brother watching, but in the United States he says you may not
gamble online.
