November 3 - Leading European budget airline, Ryanair has come under fire for
adding a facility to play online bingo on its website.
Ryanair chief executive, Michael O'Leary, has defended his airline's decision to
introduce online bingo to its site by saying that it is intended as more
of an entertainment than gambling.
The 'cheap-as-chips' airline teamed up with a well-known online bingo operator to allow Ryanair's passengers to enjoy playing online bingo and
other games while booking flights on the website.
Said O'Leary, 'The sums of money involved with online bingo and associated games
are relatively small while the prizes offered can be quite generous. The games
include bingo, quizzes and slots.'
O'Leary also pointed out that only passengers with credit cards could access the
online bingo games and that they would not encourage underage gambling.
In another move to increase it alternative streams of revenue, Ryanair is expected
to introduce cell phone calls on its flights sometime next year.
