August 19 - Natalie Teltscher, the sister of professional poker player, Mark
Teltscher, has dropped her claim against PokerStars.com after this popular poker
room refused to grant her the title of winner of the World Championships of
Online Poker (WCOOP).
Last September, Teltscher, competing under the pseudonym TheV0ID, fought it
out for the title against ka$ino in a long, 22 hour battle. The prize up for
grabs in the WCOOP events was a whopping $1,228,330 and Teltscher eventually
beat her opponent.
However, after investigating the case over a period of two weeks, PokerStars
were convinced that it was not Teltscher herself who was playing against ka$ino
during WCOOP tournament, and was thus going against the rules of the event. She
was soon stripped of her title and disqualified as the winner.
Furious with the decision, Teltscher filed a suit with court in the Isle of
Man. However, after being presented with the evidence against her, she withdraw
her complaint and dropped all charges.
In a statement issued by PokerStars this week it was stated that "Ms
Teltscher initially claimed that she had played the account. However, when faced
with the results of PokerStars.com's investigation, she eventually admitted that
she hadn't played. The decision of Ms Teltscher to withdraw her claim fully
vindicates PokerStars.com's decision to disqualify her from the tournament and
subsequently defend the claim, actions that were taken in order to protect the
integrity of the games on offer at PokerStars.com."
Not everybody was unhappy about Teltscher's decision to drop her charges,
least of all the other players in the tournament who automatically moved one
place up in the prize table and had the money that was removed from Teltscher
redistributed to them.
