|   | | June 14 - PayPal, one of the world's leading online payment processors (OPPs),
publicly announced a few years ago that it would no longer process any online
gambling-related payments and, in doing so, left the online gambling payment
gate wide open for another OPP, Neteller.
However, it seems we live in strange times, with Paris Hilton actually doing
time in a real prison, ex-presidential candidate Al Gore the environment's
self-appointed number 1 campaigner and now PayPal agreeing to process payments
for online lottery tickets.
Strange indeed given that lotteries the world over are all considered to be...er,
gambling. And of course if you purchase lotto tickets over the Internet that
would be considered...er, 'online gambling', so that begs the question 'what
gives Amigo... er PayPal?'.
Why the sudden change of policy that makes one form of gambling acceptable over
another? It is this writer's opinion that lotteries are more likely to encourage
underage gambling or problem gambling because lottery tickets are so cheap and
easily available.
Anyway, I suppose this is at least good news for certain lottery companies and
especially online lottery fans.
