|   | | May 4 - Highly respected online payment gateway, PayPal, is allowing players to
use its services on leading online sportsbook, Betfair, as long as they live in the UK and other EU
countries where online gambling is legal.
This is an about turn for PayPal who a few years ago stopped processing payment
transactions connected with any and all forms of online gambling.
PayPal spokesperson, Amanda Pires said that PayPal had changed its policy
towards online gambling a few months ago, regarding online gamblers based in the
UK and EU, because of the legal status of online gambling in those countries.
Unfortunately for US-based online gamblers, PayPal is still strictly off
limits. Even though more than half of all online gamblers in the world are based in the
United States, online gambling is still considered illegal in the country.
Said Pires, 'We still prohibit the use of our services for online gambling in
the US because it is illegal for US accountholders to gamble online. Betfair
uses state-of-the-art technology to prevent US gamblers from using PayPal.'
