PartyGaming in Talks With US Authorities - 06-05-07

June 5 - Leading LSE-listed online gambling company, PartyGaming Plc, has
admitted that it is currently in talks with the US Government regarding the high
number of arrests of online gambling executives.
PartyGaming, an online gambling powerhouse has admitted that it sought out the talks
with the Southern District of New York US Attorney's Office to find out
more information about the recent series of arrests and perhaps how to avoid future
arrests.
Since the US Senate passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIEGA)
in the House of Representatives last year, and President George W Bush signed it
into law, online gambling has effectively been banned in the United States.
In addition, US Authorities has used the ban as an excuse to 'crack down' on
online gambling as well as online gambling-related companies by targeting and
arresting key online gambling executives.
The first 'victim' was then BetOnSports chief executive, David Carruthers, who
was arrested at an airport in Texas while en route somewhere. Just last month BetOnSports
pleaded guilty to US racketeering charges.
BetOnSports executives agreed to cooperate with US Authorities against the
company's founder Gary Kaplan and other co-defendants including David Carruthers.
PartyGaming owns and operates
PartyPoker.com, one of the world's most popular online poker rooms.
