August 22 - Top-rated online poker room, Empire Poker, announced that it has
almost trebled its profits thanks to the growing global popularity of online poker.
The poker room announced that its 2nd quarter profits had increased
from just under $9 million last year to $21 million this year. During the same
period, its player total increased from 51 000 to over 125 000.
Empire Poker's success has been attributed to the massive 'explosion' in the
popularity of online casinos, online poker rooms and online gambling as a whole,
around the world.
Three years ago the online poker gambling industry was estimated to be worth
somewhere in the region of $90 million. Last year, that figure had risen to over $1 billion.
Given its recent jump in profitability, Empire Poker acquired Club Dice Casino,
comprising an online casino and online poker room.
