May 14 - Although
online casinos and online gambling are illegal in the United
States, only 19% of American-based online gamblers admit that online gambling is
in fact illegal in the country.
This is one of the surprising statistics revealed by an online survey
conducted by the American Gaming Association (AGA) recently.
One of the most surprising findings to emerge from the survey was that the number of
online gamblers based in the US has almost doubled from the same period last
year (2005), even given the hype surrounding the legality of the Internet gaming.
AGA President and Chief Executive Officer, Frank Fahrenkopf Jr commented that
even though the overall percentage of Americans who gamble online is pretty
small, the online casino and online gambling issue has certainly grabbed the attention of
the American people, the media and, of course, Congress.
In fact, there are many members of Congress who are trying their utmost to pass
bills that would make online gambling punishable by law.
