February 8 - Alberta - a Canadian province is making news within the online gambling industry. The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) is conducting a survey for information on how its residents feel about online gambling. The survey began on the phone but is now making its way around online. The spokesman for the AGLC said that it will still be quite some time before and if the government allows online gambling sites from outside the province to operate on its jurisdiction.
This has led to quite a debate including large opposition from Calgary's Catholic, stating that the willingness of the Alberta's government to allow online gambling is immoral.
AGLC is also now investigating Alberta's First nation that is offering to host online gambling websites from all over the world on their territory. The commission says this is illegal and they are committed to go through with cracking down on it.
There has been no proof that these online gambling sites have started operating yet, however AGLC is watching it closely.
