Online Casinos Welcome in Antigua Despite Pressure from US

December 1 - One of the online gambling industry's most popular online casino
gambling jurisdictions, Antigua, is going to continue to develop its online
gambling infrastructure despite pressure from the US to curb this practice.
The island of Antigua is one of just a few jurisdictions around the world where
online casinos can be legally licensed and recognized. Up until now, Antigua has
granted 14 online casino operating licenses.
The US is claiming that online gambling should not be permitted on the island
because it is violation of state law. Antigua denies this, saying that it is
operating well within Global Trade regulations.
Antigua Minister of Finance, Errol Cort was quoted as saying that despite
increasing pressure from the United States, Antigua would continue and grow as a
safe and legal online gambling jurisdiction for the online gambling industry.
He went on to disclose that another 10 new online casino licenses will be
granted in 2006 which will create upwards of 500 new jobs and generate over $2
million in online gambling licensing fees for Antigua.
