Our man from South Africa could go down in history as one of the unluckiest winners ever. This is what happened. The gambler correctly chose the first five finishers in a horse racing event that took place on 12 September. Based on the odds, his winnings would have been over $170,000. But luck dealt him a loosing hand when he was not able to claim the big winnings because his wife unknowingly washed away the winning ticket that was still in his trousers at the time.
In fact the online casino gambler in question was the only person that managed to predict the first five finishing horses. Even the bookie who placed the bet was aware that he actually chose the winning finish order. Bookies keep duplicate records of all bets and are able to confirm the details of placed bets. But, since his winning ticket was disposed of in the washing machine, by default he is unable to produce the winning ticket for verification and claim his cash.
The bookies PR agent explained the issues in detail as to why the gambler in question can't claim his cash: 'The day after the race, a man came to our offices, saying he had got the order for the race correct, which we already knew because we keep duplicates. Unfortunately, the gambler was unable to present the green part of his ticket, which acts as proof, and explained that his wife had washed the pants he had left the winning ticket in. The gambler tried to retrieve the ticket but to no avial and after seven days, the ticket lapsed, as stated in the rules. So in fact the poor guy can't claim the winnings and they have been rolled into the next jackpot.
