|   | | March 27 - As a country playing 'capitalism catch-up', mother Russia has
experienced a boom in online casino gambling over the past few years just as most
other countries have, with little or no interference from the government in
terms of law or legislation.
The Russian online gambling industry is estimated to be worth $5 billion a
year, and is being cited as one of the fastest growing online gambling markets
in the world, even rivaling the Asian market where online gambling has exploded.
However, there has been much speculation of late within the land of vodka and
beluga, that due to this massive growth, the Russian government may introduce
legislation to regulate and oversee the online casino industry within its
borders.
Whether this will happen anytime soon or how it will effect the Russian online gambling industry,
remains to be seen.
But it is a sign of the times when even a country like Russia, which is
perceived by many to be the 'Wild West' of business where anything goes, is
considering towing the online gambling line.
