|   | | April 27 - It has been reported that the UK government is currently
contemplating lifting its almost 40-year ban of casino advertising in late 2007,
which would apply to both online casino and traditional land casino advertising.
If this comes about, it will open the doors for casinos and online casinos to
advertise on mainstream, above-the-line media, including television and radio.
However, before the ban is lifted and a new gambling code is introduced by the
Gambling Commission and Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), it has been
decided that the British public will first be allowed to give their opinions on
the matter.
It is no secret that online gambling industry insiders believe the current rules
on mainstream gambling advertising to be far to restrictive. For instance, under
the current rules and regulations, casino and gambling operators are only
allowed to advertise the location and addresses of their venues and nothing
else.
The only form of 'gambling' advertising currently allowed on UK TV, is for the
country's National Lottery.
Although the potential 'relaxing' of online casino and casino advertising
is being greeted by the online gambling industry with much excitement and
anticipation, UK government officials have made it abundantly clear that the new rules will
undergo very strict regulation and monitoring.
In addition, the Gambling Commission will not issue casino operation licenses to
operators that fail to comply with the new advertising rules.
