Legalized Online Gambling on Cards in South Africa - 05-28-07
>>

May 28 - It's no secret that online gambling is considered a 'gray area' in
South Africa, although technically the practices of gambling online as well as
running online gambling operations from within the country are illegal.
However, you don't have to look very far to find evidence of a thriving online
gambling community in South Africa and one which many large overseas online
gambling groups are eagerly monitoring for future opportunities.
Surprisingly, the South African government has indicated that it intends to
fully legalize and regulate gambling online once its has satisfied
itself that online gambling will not contribute to problem or underage gambling.
Although exactly when this will happen remains anyone's guess.
The government is reportedly still compiling an extensive study on online gambling and the global online gambling industry, in terms of
benefits and repercussions for South African online gamblers as well as for the economy as a
whole.
However, it is clear that the SA government is keen to follow the example of
governments of countries such as the United Kingdom, that has nurtured a successful
and well-regulated online gambling industry that benefits both the country and
its citizens.
The alternative route, such as the online gambling ban in the USA, does not seem
to be an option for the South African government which is great news for South
Africans and the online gambling community in general.
It seems that one 'Big Brother Fascist State' is enough in the world.
