November 8 - The introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act
(UIGEA) in the United States has prompted a lot of activity in the online
gambling industry, the latest being talks of a possible merger between two
large online poker rooms, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet.
In fact, the online gambling world has been abuzz for weeks with news that the two 'online poker powerhouses' were in talks to consolidate into what will become one of the most formidable online poker destinations on the Internet today.
Interestingly, if the merger between Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet goes ahead,
the new company is expected to continue to market and build on its position in the United States.
This course of action is surprising to many online gambling insiders, considering the majority of the largest online gambling companies in the world have pulled out of the US market completely due to UIGEA, and chosen to focus instead on
the online gambling markets in the UK, Europe and Asia.
At this time there has been no indication of how the potential merger between
Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet will be structured. Watch this space!
