August
12 - After weeks of nail biting poker action and anticipation, the 2006 World
Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas was won by 37-year Hollywood TV
producer, Jamie Gold who not only earned himself the 2006 WSOP Champion
title, but won the event's lucrative $12 million first prize.
Gold, who was sponsored by leading online gambling website,
Bodog.com, went to the final table of the 2006 WSOP Main Event with
an overwhelming chip lead. He managed to keep it that way right until he
dispatched Paul Wasicka to win the event.
Against all the odds, Gold managed to make it through the record field of 8873
players that entered this year's WSOP Main Event, to be the only player left
standing.
For the first time in the history of the World Series of Poker, the last 12
players each won over a million dollars and Gold's $12 million pay out has
broken the record for the highest recorded poker tournament first prize in the
history of the game.
