|   | | September 8 - In recent days, it was reported that Intralot, through its joint company Inteltek, had probably been successful in grabbing one of the biggest international contracts to date - the right to run Turkey's national sports betting game, Iddaa.
Today, Intralot confirmed that it had won the bid after making an offer to take 1.4% of the revenues for the next decade. Intralot beat tough competitors such as Ladbrokes and a three group consortium comprising Snai, Lottomatica and Dogan Yahin, to grab the contract.
The news comes amidst news of excellent revenues for Intralot in the first half of 2008. The company reported total revenues of 437.5 million Euros, with gross profit rising an impressive 13% to 164.2 million. All in all, total revenues increased by 45%.
Speaking about the company's successful year, Intralot's Chief Executive Officer, Constantinos Antonopoulos said: "The first half of 2008 was very interesting for Intralot since it managed to prevail in a number of significant international tenders: It was awarded one of the three sports betting licenses in Madrid, it won a dual lottery contract in the Netherlands, and it signed its sixth contract in the United States with the Ohio State Lottery, one of the largest US state lotteries."
The bid to run the Iddaa sports betting game will certainly give Intralot another boost in its line of successful international deals. The bid was won in a second and final round against competitors.
"The company won again the very important tender in Turkey regarding the risk management of the Turkish betting game Iddaa for a period of ten years," said Antonopoulos. "It also acquired two companies, a video-lottery operator in Slovakia and a company in Italy that owned 55 licenses for sports and horse racing points of sale, further strengthening its strong position in the country's betting market."
