August 18 - After spending nearly a month in jail, former BetOnSports CEO,
David Carruthers, was released on $1 million bail yesterday in the US city of St
Louis, Missouri.
Carruthers was arrested last month at a Dallas airport during a stopover while
en route to BetOnSports headquarters in Coast Rica. He and other key BetOnSports
executives were charged with fraud and racketeering in connection with the online
gambling website.
Part of Carruthers' bail conditions include him being required to stay within
the St Louis city limits. He was supposed to have been released Tuesday this
week, but apparently some of his bail conditions had not been met by then.
Carruthers has been placed under 'house arrest', although while out
on bail he will be confined to a local hotel while awaiting his trial date. As
such, he is restricted from leaving the hotel except for meetings with his
attorneys, medical emergencies and court appearances.
He is also being required to wear an electronic ankle
bracelet in order to track and monitor his whereabouts at all times. Carruthers
and the other BetOnSports defendants have all pleaded not guilty to the charges
leveled against them.
