|   | | August 12 - In a move to prevent underage gambling and protect problem gamblers,
eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) has introduced a
new 'responsible online gambling' initiative.
All 56 of the online casinos and poker rooms that are currently eCOGRA members,
will shortly be required to implement new eCOGRA policies and guidelines to
enforce gambling regulations developed in? association with the G4
Responsible Gambling Group.
A few regulations include the 'warning' of underage online gamblers to barring
problem gamblers. The member sites will each include a Responsible Gaming section
which highlights the danger of problem and underage online gambling.
If the online casinos or poker rooms suspect a gambler of having problems, they
will enforce either a week's cooling-off period, a six month ban or limited
deposit measure for the protection of the player.
Casino staff will be trained to scan player financial records for signs of
problem gambling and handle each suspected case accordingly.
This may include the removal of problem gamblers from the casino or poker room's
mailing list to prevent promotional material from reaching them.
All of the above measures will also be applicable to 'Play Money' games.
Andrew Beveridge, eCOGRA CEO, explained that the new initiative was designed to
be one of the most comprehensive?responsibility driven online gambling
efforts yet undertaken within the online gaming industry.
