May 30 - eCOGRA, the online gambling standards authority that
provides player assurance and casino regulation to the online gambling industry,
has reported that the majority of disputes it settles between players and online casinos are in the players' favor.
Since January this year, eCOGRA has showed statistically that 54 per cent of all
casino disputes were resolved in the favor of players. During this period eCOGRA
received nearly 300 requests for mediation and accepted 250 of them.
Said an eCOGRA spokesperson, 'Out of the 250 cases we mediated, in 137 cases
after hearing all the facts and both sides of the story, we ruled in the
favor of the players. In addition, we received more
player complaints then ever before which shows an increased player awareness of
eCOGRA.'
One of the main areas of player discontent over this period has been related to
delays involving the processing of US payments, which is a direct result of the
American online gambling ban after the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was passed into law last year.
Currently eCOGRA boasts 118 accredited online gambling sites.
