Could Online Gambling Be Legalized in the US - 06-09-07

June 9 - This the question currently being asked throughout the online gambling
industry despite the fact that most online gambling companies have 'written off'
the United States since the pastime was effectively banned last year.
However, since last year, a few 'knights in shining armor' have emerged such as
the US House Financial Services committee chairman, Barney Frank who believes
that Americans should be able to decide for themselves whether to gamble online
or not.
Much like Americans have the right and freedom to choose whether to own guns, enjoy adult
entertainment, smoke or drink or not.
Barney's premise that it is better to legalize and regulate online gambling,
giving the US government certain control over the industry, then leaving it
banned outright and spurning an underground online gambling black market in the
process.
He has cited the United Kingdom as an example of a country that has accepted
online gambling by legalizing and strictly regulating it. The UK government
views online gambling as just another 'industry'.
For this reason many
large online gambling concerns are listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
