Citadel to Focus on European Online Gambling Market - 03-30-07
>>

March 30 - Pretty much the entire online gambling industry has undergone an
enormous restructure following the online gambling ban in America, including
online payment processors such as Citadel Commerce, that have been forced to
refocus their marketing efforts elsewhere.
Canadian-based ESI Entertainment Systems Inc. (ESI) has unveiled plans to expand
its UK operations by moving the central operations of Citadel (and its
subsidiary Payline) to the Mediterranean island of Malta.
Ever since US President George W. Bush signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIEGA) into law at the end of last year, Citadel has stopped
processing online payments from US-based customers.
As a result, the firm's share price plunged by almost 90 percent spurring the
company to make the move to Malta where it will be in a better position to
market to the UK and other European countries that are 'online gambling
friendly'.
Citadel's primary data centre will also relocate to Malta while its call centre,
while enhanced, will continue to operate out of Costa Rica.
