|   | | November 12 - On Thursday last week US Attorney Catherine Hanaway reached a
settlement with online sports betting website, BetOnSports Plc that effectively bans the online gambling company from
accepting online sports bets from US-based players, in conclusion to a lengthy
civil lawsuit.
Hanaway filed the lawsuit against BetOnSports, which is listed on the London
Stock Exchange (LSE), earlier this year as part of a crackdown on online
gambling companies targeting US players.
At the time, BetOnSports CEO David Carruthers was arrested in the United State on charges of fraud
and racketeering.
As part of the settlement, BetOnSports has agreed to place advertisements in a
well-known US newspaper acknowledging that online gambling is illegal in the United
States and that the popular online sports book will no longer accept bets from
American players.
The large online gambling concern also agreed to fund a toll-free telephone
number that informs its US players on how they can redeem the money in
their BetOnSports accounts that has been frozen since the lawsuit was filed.
BetOnSports released a statement saying that even though it agreed to the
settlement, it denied any wrongdoing.
If you are based in the United States, we sympathise that
your government has taken away your God given right and freedom to gamble online
as you see fit.
