|   | | May 23 - It has been reported that the Australian government is looking to ban
online casino gambling via cell phones.
The Australian Federal Treasurer has released a statement that, in effect, says
that the Government will attempt to prevent Australians from accessing online
gambling sites over their cell phones.
An offshore company has reportedly being looking to offer Australians the means to
gamble using their cell phones. They are offering 'betting' on the outcome of
traditional games such as mobile chess, as well as the purchase of lottery
tickets via SMS.
Said the Hon Peter Costello, MP and Treasurer of the Australian Commonwealth, 'We
have begun to take the necessary measures to shut down or at least restrict
some online gambling activities.
'We are looking to extend those restrictions to cell phone gambling. However,
the Commonwealth Government is not responsible for the regulation of gambling.
That is, of course, regulated at a state level,' he said.
We at Top Gambler support the right to gamble online in any and all forms
anywhere in the world, provided the players are of a country, state or
jurisdiction's legal gambling age.
