|   | | November 10 - There
have been many cheers amongst online gamblers in the United States this
week as congressman Jim Leach, R-Iowa, one of the main 'architects' and
supporters of the recently passed Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of
2006 (UIGEA), was defeated in the country's election.
For almost 30 years Leach has represented the state of Iowa, that it until he
was ousted this week, albeit narrowly, by Democrat Dave Loebsack.
Leach recently gained notoriety amongst American online gambling supporters for
backing HR 4411, a bill designed to prevent American banks and credit card
companies from accepting and processing online gambling-related payments.
With Leach now dispatched, there is fresh hope among US online gambling fans
that the Democrat party will adopt a more favorable attitude towards online
gambling, ideally legalizing and regulating the industry, much like the UK government has done
with great success.
From all of us at Top Gambler, we would like wish Jim Leach farewell and look
forward to bumping into him in an online casino or online poker room sometime
soon!
