May 6 - With several plans for mega casinos already on the drawing
board in Atlantic City, it was announced last week that Wallace Barr and
Curtis Bashaw are intending to construct another massive casino resort in the
city.
Barr, who served in the past as president and CEO for Caesar's
Entertainment, and Bashaw, who once served as the Executive Director of the New
Jersey Casino Reinvestment Authority, said that the new mega casino would be
situated on the southern end of Atlantic City's boardwalk, on the site of the
former Dunes Casino.
The skyscraper mega casino would tower Atlantic City at 253 meters
high and cover nearly 19,000 square meters of gaming space, ensuring the
ultimate in gambling convenience for visitors. A total of 2000 hotel rooms would
allow higher revenues for the new project, in addition to 14,000 square meters
of convention space and 18,500 square meters of retail space designated for
shops, entertainment and restaurants.
In a press interview, Curtis Bashaw, who has formed a new company
with Barr, called AC Gateway, said: "What we're trying to do is a complementary
project with everything that is happening in town. We think this is a very
important site on the beach. When you add this project to what Revel is doing,
and what Pinnacle is doing, you're creating a nice rhythm on the boardwalk."
Bashaw was referring to two new projects that are in different
phases of construction - a $2-billion casino resort built by Revel Entertainment
at the opposite end of the boardwalk, while another mega casino at the same
value proposed by Pinnacle Entertainment that is expected to break ground soon.
